Ignite Your Child
For many years now, I have been called to work with a population of young people who are extraordinary. However, to many educators and parents, these extraordinary kids can be the cause of a great deal of stress.
These young people come in a variety of shapes and sizes. They have very unique processes. Many of them are extremely creative, sensitive and wise in a variety of ways. Often, they get lost in the forms that we call school and society. Sometimes they are labeled as Learning Disabled, special needs, oppositional, lazy and unintelligent – our “problem children”.
Sometimes they are quiet and withdrawn, and learn over time how to make themselves small – to hide. Other times they become very angry, oppositional or defiant out of frustration and confusion. These young people end up being who and what people around them have led them to be. They are not given any glimpse of what might be possible – who they could be outside of all their assessments and evaluations.
Many of them live each day suffering through life, believing they do not matter, that they do not count or do not have any gifts or talents to share with those around them. They feel anxious, depressed and badly about themselves.
I am here to tell you that this is not the truth. I believe that these young people possess a unique way of seeing, feeling, processing and experiencing life.
They are amazing human beings who we imprison with our labels and our forms. They are deeply emotional young people who have tremendous vision, insight, love and imagination and our forms and norms exclude them and their strengths and talents.
It is my deepest intention to show them who they really are, not what they have been told about themselves.
This is my answer: I give them hope.
- I get them to look at what is possible.
- I support them in letting go of their past persona or reputation and the pain they have experienced.
- I teach them how they truly learn – including how their emotional and thinking selves impact their lives and learning.
- I help them reshape their challenges – to see these challenges as opportunities – and to set aside what they have been led to believe about themselves – anything and everything that has made life seem so very heavy.
I assist them in creating a new inner space where we can IGNITE a new way of thinking, speaking, doing and learning.
I also assist parents and educators to implement new ways of understanding and creatively supporting each individual where they are in the process.
I call this process Ignite Coaching.
Are you ready to Ignite Your Child?
This is my invitation to begin a dialogue with me. To discuss the possibility of trying something new to support your Unique Learner.
To help support her or him to light up to life and learning again – or for the first time.
When I was a teacher at a private school for Special Education kids, I had classes of no more than 9 students. I based my classes on partnership and honoring each other. In fact, any time someone spoke out of turn or felt slighted, I empowered the students to stop the class so we could talk about it. If anyone felt disrupted we would stop in the moment and the students would express how they felt. We would all process it together until everyone felt heard and agreed to move on with the lesson.
What happened was miraculous; they all began to honor each other and the disruptions came to a halt. This enabled the students to engage more in the academic setting. Together, we ignited their learning.
“I have been privileged to know Michele for a decade. It is no exaggeration when I say my experience with her has been life changing. And knowing her has made me a better person.
Before meeting and working with Michele, I had met many professionals who didn’t walk their talk. For example, they said what you wanted to hear but, when push came to shove, you didn’t feel like they really cared or were invested in your progress.
Michele is the antithesis of that.
Michele always comes from a place and compassion and love. There’s no “you screwed this up.” Everything is a learning experience. But she actually treats it as such.
She is nothing short of extraordinary, both as a coach and a human being. Her way of interacting with people – men, kids, women – is bar none. She’s an incredibly gift to anyone who’s lucky enough to know and/or work with her.”

I inspire struggling or withdrawn young people and their families to transform stress into happiness and success. To ignite a new way of knowing and experiencing themselves and the world around them. To ignite a new way of thinking, speaking and doing.
My unique process includes:
- Addressing how emotions have impact on your child’s learning experience and life. Learning is an inherently emotional experience and negative traumas – little or big – impact how a child learns later on
- Being in the conversation of solutions, not problems, focusing on seeing what is possible for each Unique Learner
- Offering up a path of collaboration and partnership – we are better advocating together, all coming from our unique perspectives and expertise
- Sharing my therapeutic and non-judgmental way of working and helping break down barriers
- Helping to create a container for collaboration in support of your child’s empowerment
Young people ages five and up who:
- Are falling through the cracks
- Are being pushed through the school system without feeling good about themselves or experiencing the value of learning
- Make themselves smaller and hide because they are used to not being acknowledged and, therefore, not reaching their potential
- Are disorganized and/or procrastinate
- Are told they aren’t trying hard enough even when working hard
- Hate school and feel like they can never succeed
- Have inconsistent grades
- Are considered high IQ, intellectually gifted and also have some form of disability (twice exceptional learners)
- Are stressed out about life and school
- Feel hopeless, sad and depressed
- Don’t know how to do homework, study or write
- Are unique “out-of-the-box” learners, processors and thinkers
- Need help with Executive Function and metacognitive processes
- Have learning differences and/or special needs
“I started seeing Michele as a young adolescent struggling with both a processing disorder that made school difficult and depression. As somebody who hadn’t been satisfied with other therapists or life coaches I’d formerly tried, I immediately found Michele’s presence very comforting and encouraging. She aided in instilling critical life skills at a particularly vulnerable age, including helping me to develop confidence and communication skills, navigate time management processes, use critical thinking and self-reflect.
A unique asset that Michele brings to the table is her holistic, multifaceted approach to life strategy, mental health and human difference. She doesn’t just focus on a single area of her clients’ lives but rather addresses potential underlying factors, forces, and ulterior motives.
She has great talent in what she does and, in our time together, she helped me come to a number of self-discoveries that ultimately contributed to my progression as a teenager. Now, in my mid-20s, we still connect frequently and she still offers occasional life advice when I seek it out. I would highly recommend her services across age groups and for a multitude of developmental challenges and goals.”

Emotional Affect is my specialty and something I am very passionate about. How we learn is an emotional experience.
When we are more emotionally open, we are more open to what is possible: we are naturally more curious, confident and capable.
I can teach learning and studying techniques and strategies but I also address this in a very unique way for the emotional mindset of each individual.
“…learning is dynamic, social and context dependent because emotions are, and emotions form a critical piece of how, what, when and why people think, remember, and learn.”
From Emotions, Learning and the Brain-Exploring the Educational
Implications of Affective Neuroscience by Mary Helen Immordino-Yang
Your child will never get lost in a group setting with my coaching program. The individualized attention is penultimate to your child’s success and potential. No two students’ sessions will ever look the same as my work bends and flexes to support your child exactly where they are. This approach saves you time and money in the long run of changing your child’s educational experience for the better.
Yes, I have the credentials to teach and reach unique learners and some of my experience may look similar to other educational consultants out there but I assure you my work is unparalleled and cannot be compared to any other help you’ve encountered yet. Your search for answers will end and come to fruition here.
This also means you will not need to work with me indefinitely. I will teach your child how they uniquely fish rather than make them catch the fish a certain way. Your child will discover a new way of being - not just how to take tests better or focus longer. This work is life-changing. For all of you.
And the listening I offer for what lies beneath the surface means you, as the parents and guardians, have the space to express your feelings, frustrations and anxieties. You can trust me to put together the whole picture by taking everyone’s story into account and uncover what’s really going on in and out of school and beyond.
